Michigan’s lone wild wolverine was found dead on Saturday by a pair of hikers.

First sighted in 2005, the wolverine, aptly named Sheila by the opinion desk for today, was the first known wolverine in Michigan’s wilderness since the 1800s.

With the usual knocks against the University of Michigan, the opinion desk discusses its sadness over the death and the unfortunate situation Sheila faced.

The team also notes the regrettable decision of not bringing the lone male wolverine, Buddy, from California to give Sheila some much-needed companionship.

Join opinion editor Dan Faas, opinion writer Pat Evans, staff writer Kate Jacobson and intern Andrew Krietz as they discuss the solemn occasion.
