Life lessons learned from the 'stache
New York baseball fans may be witnessing the greatest public relations campaign of all time.
This spring, Yankees first baseman Jason Giambi admitted to committing the cardinal sin in professional baseball — using steroids.
But the former MLB All-Star didn’t have to hire an expensive PR firm to protect his image.
He came up with his own strategy to get back into the hearts of Yankees fans.
He knew it had to be something bold, something courageous — a move that only a real man would even consider.
Giambi was going to rock the fabled ‘stache.
The genesis of the famous mustache was rumored to have been May 17, and it has continued to branch out and build up in thickness ever since.
Since growing out the facial fur, Giambi has tallied 11 homers and is currently tied for the Yankees home run lead with 18.
The Yankees have also picked up their game since the transformation of Giambi’s upper lip. They were 20-23 before the ‘stache, and 36-27 with it.
Before the season started, it appeared it would be the last year in pinstripes for Giambi. His contract expires this year and the Steinbrenners typically don’t like being associated with cheaters.
But it appears Giambi is back on the organization’s good side.
During last night’s home game against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Yankees gave away 20,000 fake mustaches in an attempt to promote Giambi into the last American League All-Star spot.
It’s rumored that coaches and players might even don the fuzz to help Giambi’s cause.
The American Mustache Institute is also rallying behind Giambi, releasing this statement:“It does not take a mathematician to know that Giambi + Mustache = All-Star. It’s science.”
Fans love the ridiculousness of the ‘stache and Giambi’s past mistakes have been all but forgotten.
So what can we learn from all of this?
It’s pretty simple, really. It’s a lesson that doesn’t need to be restricted to professional athletes, either.
If you have to admit to cheating, just grow a ‘stache. Make a mistake, grow a ‘stache. And if you are in any way stumbling along your path in life, grow a ‘stache.
No matter how badly you mess up, just grow the most facial hair you possibly can and people will love you again.
The more outrageous it looks, the better. There is my life lesson for the day.

Affirmative Action for Sports said: White basketball players are an under-represented ethnic group on the basketball team, and even the football team.
If you support affirmative action for our sports teams so that the ethnic composition truly represents the American public, raise your hand.
The deafening silence ensues.
