No in-depth opening this week, let’s get straight to my picks:

  • Early men's hoops awards

So after the blizzard that struck during the attempted second half of Sunday’s field hockey game, I have an extra appreciation for what our camera people do.

Club sports great way to get involved

Athletic competition shouldn’t be limited to those competing on varsity teams. That’s what I determined after taking a look at MSU’s Intramural Sports and Recreative Services Web site.

During the summer, it’s easy to come home from work and sit on the couch. During the academic year, it’s just as easy to the same when coming back from class. But those who prefer to be couch potatoes are missing out on an array of fun, healthy activities.

How many students knew that MSU has had an aikido team since 1973? How many knew there was a club dodgeball team?

A visit to MSU’s Society for Creative Anachronism will explain that the club encourages their members to research and re-create the arts and skills of the pre-17th century world.

And those are just some of the many teams that students might not know about. There’s plenty of action for students looking to play some football, softball or ultimate Frisbee.

Just because you weren’t given an opportunity to walk onto the football team doesn’t mean you should sit on the sidelines. Find something that interests you and go with it.

I mean, who wouldn’t want to learn about sailing or scuba-diving?
