Fantasy football, week 12
No in-depth opening this week, let’s get straight to my picks:
-
Early men's hoops awards
With my term coming to an end as an MSU men’s basketball beat reporter since the spring, I can’t help but still feel connected to the team.
-
Appreciating the great camera work
So after the blizzard that struck during the attempted second half of Sunday’s field hockey game, I have an extra appreciation for what our camera people do.
Home game lineup not appealing
The MSU football team has been receiving high praises from national pundits and prognosticators, who are calling us the next Kansas or Illinois — teams that had breakout seasons last year.
MSU has a boatload of talent on both sides of the ball and after a full year under Mark Dantonio’s system, MSU is poised to become the next team that shocks the world.
I believe that could all happen — I just won’t be attending the games to see it all unfold.
I have every reason to go to the games, after all I had to spend my first three years witnessing games like the 2005 and 2007 bouts against Michigan, where we flirted with destroying our in-state rival but decided against it in the second half. Or in 2006, when highly ranked Notre Dame decided to rip my heart out in the middle of a monsoon and Ohio State covered Spartan Stadium in scarlet and gray chanting “O-H-I-O.”
With our team expected to succeed, there should be no reason against dropping the $136 it takes to buy a white T-shirt and a spot on the bench. I’m just not excited by the schedule.
No offense to Eastern Michigan or Florida Atlantic, but … seriously? They’re worth nearly $20 a ticket?
The only other games that might interest me are Ohio State or Wisconsin.
Notre Dame took themselves off the list with its three-win performance last season, while Iowa and Purdue might as well be Eastern Michigan and Florida Atlantic.
And now that the Big Ten Network is on Comcast, there’s no reason to wake up early to try to get a lower bowl seat at a noon start.
My friends have tried to convince me otherwise with guilt trips and ultimatums. Maybe I need better convincing or maybe it’s just not worth it. I vote the latter.

Florida Atlantic actually has an excellent team and they’re going to give Michigan State a hell of a game. You should definitely go to that one even though it might end badly for Spartan fans…

Really? Florida Atlantic definitely isn’t as bad as Idaho, Kent State, Bowling Green, etc. Iowa was good enough to beat us last year and Purdue was a great game. Ohio State and Wisconsin MIGHT interest you? What more do you want than two of the three other schools in the Big Ten that don’t run the spread coming to East Lansing?

You’re almost as bad as a fair weather fan. Sure, games against wisconsins and ohio states of the football world are nice, but I am a fan of MSU. I go to hang out with friends and cheer the team on no matter who they are playing. All the games can’t be against big time teams, you should be used to that by now.

Good stay home, save the seat for someone that actually cares about the team.
Try putting a little research into other teams before writing articles. Seriously. Just because Michigan is not playing at Spartan Stadium this year — there are other teams besides Michigan in the conference.

I know the state news usually lacks writing talent, and it’s even worse in the summer, but daaaaaamn.

Do not underestimate the FAU Owls. Or better yet, tell the team to underestimate us. We are the youngest team to win a bowl in history. We are defending conference champs with the best QB in FL who isn’t named Tebow. Almost our entire team is back from last year…If you think this is a cake walk, think again.
GO OWLS! BEAT TEXAS! (AND MSU LATER!)

What the HECK, EASTERN MICHIGAN NOW, what the f…. Why do people talk trash all day? Now all we need is a Notre Dame fan to queer things up alittle bit more.

Your a sports reporter that doesn’t want to go to games? Isn’t that a job requirement? Good luck after college.
