Week 2 fantasy football picks

So I’m a combined 0-2 so far in my two fantasy football leagues. It turns out, the Rams offense isn’t coming back anytime soon and maybe the New Orleans Saints aren’t going to throw the ball to Marques Colston like it’s 2006 (especially now that he’s hurt).

Anyway, here are The State News’ fantasy football picks for week No. 2.

Two to start
Green Bay running back Ryan Grant — OK, call me a Detroit Lions hater, but numbers don’t lie. The Lions gave up more than 300 yards on the ground in the opener.

New England running back Laurence Maroney — When your buddy drafted Maroney anywhere in the first six or seven rounds of your fantasy draft, admit it, you laughed. Now with Tom Brady out for the season, the Patriots have to focus on the run a little bit more. The Pats won’t suddenly become a run-first team, but Maroney will see more carries.

Two to sit
Denver Broncos running backs — First off, they still don’t know who is the No. 1 back in Denver. Secondly, even though the Chargers lost linebacker Shaun Merriman for the season, they’re still a top-tier defense.

Cowboys D/ST — No matter how talented the Dallas defense is, every now and then they’re going to run into an offense with playmakers who can gain yards and put points on the board. They see it this week with Donovan McNabb, Brian Westbrook and the Eagles.

Waiver wire special
Tennessee quarterback Kerry Collins — With starter Vince Young out with an injured knee — and injured confidence — the 35-year-old Collins gets the start. Earlier today I heard some ESPN reporters say that Collins is a better fit for the Titans offense. Either way, they’re playing Cincinnati.

Great call on Ryan Grant. After seeing what Michael Turner did to the Lions defense in week 1, how could you not have Grant in your starting line up as a RB1 for week 2? Grant averaged 7.5 yards per carry in 2 games against Detroit last season. He was also able to find the end zone in each of those contests. If his sore hamstring is a non issue, a potential monster outing awaits Grant in week 2.

So despite how bad the Lions are, nothing is certain in fantasy football.
