Fantasy football, week 12
No in-depth opening this week, let’s get straight to my picks:
-
Early men's hoops awards
With my term coming to an end as an MSU men’s basketball beat reporter since the spring, I can’t help but still feel connected to the team.

Appreciating the great camera work
So after the blizzard that struck during the attempted second half of Sunday’s field hockey game, I have an extra appreciation for what our camera people do.
Kitna's antics absurd
The season opener for the Detroit Lions provided a result everyone was prepared for — an expected loss.
To no great shock, the Lions fell behind 21-0 in the first quarter and the game looked to be all but over. But to the Lions’ credit, they didn’t completely give up and were able to actually put some points up on the board throughout the game.
But the thing that really surprised me early on was how livid quarterback Jon Kitna was on the sidelines after a horrid offensive series in the first half. He looked like he was ready to kill anyone who came through his path.
There is no doubt that the Lions offense was out of sync at this point, but I’m not sure if walking up to coaches and teammates and screaming in their faces is the best way to handle the situation.
I understand he is trying to be the leader of the team and stick up for the players, but that is no excuse for heading to the sidelines and screaming at everyone like they are all to blame for the offense’s failure.
So there were a couple of mix-ups on offense, get over it. Figure out the problem, adjust and lose the drama. Talk to your coordinators and teammates and get on the same page but don’t make a big-time scene by throwing a hissy fit.
Getting into the faces of coaches and players is embarrassing for the team and it is a poor reflection on the organization. With cameras all over the field, everything you do is going to be seen and analyzed.
Regardless of Kitna’s child-like antics, today’s result is just another example of the failure of the Lions. Fans can get ready for another long, long season.
