The No. 5 MSU women’s golf team announced Thursday that two student-athletes — Allyssa Ferrell (Edgerton, Wis./Madison Edgewood High School) and Christine Meier(Rochester Hills/Rochester) — have signed National Letters of Intent to join its roster for the 2010-11 season.

Head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll and the program also announced Lindsey McPherson (Flint Powers Catholic High School) also will join the program.

Ferrell was a four-time Wisconsin state qualifier and three-time first-team all-state selection who also was named the Wisconsin High school Golf Coaches Association Player of the Year in 2009. During the summer, she qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur, the U.S. Women’s Public Links Championship and the PGA Junior Championship.

Meier recently won her second consecutive Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 1 individual state title, also leading Rochester to its second straight team championship.

She was named the 2009 Golf Association of Michigan (GAM) Player of the Year, and also won the 18th annual GAM Women’s Championship in August after a four-hole playoff.

McPherson, a three-sport standout(golf, softball and basketball) who just recently decided to focus on golf, placed third at the 2009 MHSAA Division 4 Finals and earned first-team all-state honors. She also was part of Flint Powers’ 2007 and 2008 Division 3 state championship teams.
