Budget bill proposes cut to university state funding

The Michigan Senate Appropriations Committee proposed Wednesday a 3.1 percent decrease in state funding for public universities for the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1. If enacted by the state Legislature and Gov. Jennifer Granholm, the proposal could reduce MSU’s state funding by $9.1 million. Read more »
House GOP will not seek earmarks

U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Brighton, said he would not pursue any earmarks in the upcoming budget year, leaving university and community officials uncertain about the future of federal funding. More than $9 million in federal earmarks were allotted to benefit MSU research initiatives last year. Read more »

Republicans Screwed the Economy said: Right wing spewing, which we've heard for 30 years, won't change the fact that Reaganomics failed, Bushenomics failed worse, and that is why the economy is in deep doo doo and the budget deficit is high.
