Lansing resident Trek Vandecar jumps a roughly 20-foot gap over what once was a flowing creek, but now is largely just stagnant water, on hand-built jumps east of Hagadorn Road. Vandecar, who is part of a growing sport known as freeriding that combines elements of mountain bike racing with BMX jumping, often practices on Boyne Mountain in Boyne Falls, Mich., and hopes to freeride professionally.

Added 2 hours agoResidents and workers at Burcham Hills Retirement Community, 2700 Burcham Drive, celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with live music and food. Recreation coordinator Alexis Schneider said they try and have monthly parties for the residents and workers that vary on theme.

Two groups of 12 MSU students painted the 72-year-old New Orleans resident’s home during an Alternative Spring Break, or ASB, trip. The house suffered damage from Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Breaking Ground
Added 03/16/10 10:55pmUniversity officials broke ground Tuesday for the multimillion dollar Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at a ceremony that attracted more than 400 people. Eli Broad, who donated $28 million for the museum’s construction and art acquisition, and MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon discuss the ground breaking and its implications for the university. Also, the project coordinator for the museum from a London-based architecture firm discusses how the museum’s design will promote interactions between art and the surrounding communities.

Criminal justice sophomore Madison Boden puts a dollar in the instrument case of Lansing resident Hugh Cochran as he plays the tin whistle Thursday on the corner of Grand River Avenue and Charles Street. Cochran also had a fiddle and a mandolin for playing traditional Irish music. “I’m supposed to be running errands, but I needed some gas in my car,” Cochran said.

student said: There is parking available quite nearby, actually - on weekdays, metered spots and on evenings and weekends tons of free spots - in the new(ish) garage that wraps around Morrill.
I have to say that I think the museum space looks really cool, and the fact that it's going to be right along Grand River and across from the already-hideous Student Services Building minimizes its impact to the old-timey look of north campus.
