Video: Learning to Shine

East Lansing High School senior Ashley Jones brushes hair back from her face as she waits to take the stage for the evening gown portion of the 2010 Miss Sparkle Success beauty pageant held last Saturday at Kellogg Center. “I just always wanted to be in a pageant,” said Jones, 16. “I wanted to do Miss Sparkle Success because I knew it was a different kind of pageant and they don’t focus on looks. It’s more about confidence and self-esteem, and I really appreciate that.” During the months leading up to the pageant, Jones attended success seminars held by Miss Sparkle Shine and also participated in community service projects to help build herself up. “I just want to see how far I’ve improved on myself,” Jones said before the pageant.
