Swenson talks about warming up, his discussions with the coaches and what goes through his mind right before a big play. The team plays against Penn State University at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday for the last regular season game of the year. A win against Penn State would lock in a third straight bowl appearance for MSU.
Skillful Swenson
Added 11/19/09 9:00pmPunter Aaron Bates and quarterback Kirk Cousins talk about Brett Swenson’s role for the MSU Spartan’s football team. Swenson was named Big Ten special teams player of the week after two 52-yard field goals against Purdue on Saturday. As MSU’s all-time leading kicker Swenson is a Lou Groza Award semifinalist.
A 'ROIAL' Riot
Added 11/19/09 12:17amThe ROIAL Improv troupe is a branch of ROIAL, formerly the Residential Option in Arts and Letters, a program which was replaced by the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities. ROIAL players meet twice a week to practice games and learn the fundamentals of improv. They also perform about once a month for MSU students. Several improv players discuss the art of randomness and the science spontaneity.
Bring it Back
Added 11/18/09 11:21pmGov. Jennifer Granholm addressed MSU students Wednesday morning on the steps of the Administration Building and encouraged them to fight for the Michigan Promise Scholarship. Journalism sophomore Sam Inglot, zoology junior Lila Wakeman and premedical freshman Anthony Jurayj express their concerns about the elimination of the Michigan Promise Scholarship and an additional 61 percent of state financial aid funding.
Field Hockey Farewell
Added 11/18/09 10:51pmMSU field hockey senior midfielders Jeamie Deacon and Floor Rijpma reflect back on the team’s Big Ten championship season.
The Spartans lost an overtime heartbreaker Sunday against No. 2 Virginia in the second round of the 16-team NCAA Tournament and finished one round shy of the Final Four, but wrapped up the program’s first ever outright conference championship and first conference tournament title since 2003.
They finished 18-4 on the season, and were perfect in the Big Ten.
Rijpma was named the Big Ten’s Offensive Player of the Year following a 52-point season, and Deacon was named to the All-Big Ten first team.
Rijpma and Deacon talked about their favorite memories of MSU field hockey and their thoughts on this season’s run.
