Wolfe out for season with hamstring tear

The Spartans will be without sophomore forward Adam Wolfe for the remainder of the season. Wolfe suffered a severe hamstring tear to his right leg in the first half of Saturday’s Penn State game. “It’s very disappointing news,” said MSU head coach Tom Izzo in a written statement.

The holidays came a little early for senior guard Mat Ishbia this year.The 5-foot-10, 175-pound walk-on’s status shifted just before the season when men’s head basketball coach Tom Izzo gave him a scholarship.Ishbia said he didn’t see it coming.“It was a great honor,” Ishbia said.

Team improves play in Classic victory

The weekend was all about improvements for the MSU men’s basketball team in the Spartan Coca-Cola Classic. MSU defeated Indiana Purdue-Fort Wayne 81-68 in the Classic opener Friday and then defeated Lamar 80-71 on Saturday for their sixth straight Spartan Coca-Cola Classic championship.
